What is Beaujolais Nouveau?
Beaujolais Nouveau is a red wine made in the Beaujolais region in France, south of Burgundy. The wine is made from Gamay grapes grown in the region and is bottled and released the same year of its harvest. Beaujolais Nouveau: How to drink it.
How should I drink Beaujolais Nouveau?
Beaujolais Nouveau should be served chilled, unlike most red wines, which are enjoyed at room temperature. The slight chill will bring out the fresh flavors in the wine, creating an aromatic experience to excite the senses. Dubbed the "wine without rules", you can enjoy a glass of Beaujolais Nouveau on the rocks if you don't have the time to chill it. And don't worry about the wine snobs - they won't come near this semi- precious gem of a wine.
What Does Beaujolais Nouveau Taste Like?
Beaujolais Nouveau should be enjoyed within a few months of its release. It is important to keep in mind that Beaujolais Nouveau has almost no tannins (which preserve the wine), rendering it weak to aging. Without these natural preservatives, the fruity flavors of the wine from November will grow dull by the following spring. This is around the time that the "real" Beaujolais wines are released, and respectable Beaujolais Villages and Beaujolais crus wines are sought out by the collectors and wine aficionados. Beaujolais Nouveau: How it tastes. Although the taste varies every year depending on the harvest conditions, Beaujolais Nouveau has a tendency of being a very bright, fresh and fruity wine. Notes of raspberry, cherry and strawberry are easily recognizable in most harvests. The absence of tannins make the wine velvety and soft, rendering it easy to drink. Remember that Beaujolais Nouveau is a wine intended to be enjoyed. Forget the sniffing, swirling and contemplation. Pour the wine in your friends glasses before pouring it in yours, breathe in the glorious scent of life and enjoy the party.
