French Singer: Floanne
French Jazz Music and American Standards
Brasserie Julien has been hosting live music for over a decade. Recently Upper East Siders favorite "hang" has been also featuring the French Singer Floanne Ankah, called "the French Madonna" by Timeout NY. Floanne is a multi-talented performer who works as an actress and singer since she moved to New York from her native France. She sings as a chanteuse a repertoire of French songs which are classics with a modern twist. Her inspiration ranges from artists such as Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Brigitte Bardot, Jacques Brel and Charles Trenet. She is a admirer of jazz musicians such as Michel Legrand and Jacky Terrasson. Floanne is also a songstress, or singer songwriter, who writes her own compositions, and opera arias with her coloratura soprano voice. The "French Song Book" is furthermore the perfect pairing with French Wine and French Food: come experience Floanne's favorite dish, the Grilled Filet Mignon, with a glass of Côtes de Rhone, where she is from, while listening to the perfect French song: Charles Trenet's "La Mer," also known as… "Beyond the Sea".
French Actress at Upper West Side Bistro
Brasserie Julien is the perfect place to come meet the French actress Floanne Ankah. She has appeared in feature films opposite Helen Hunt, but is also a regular day player on the ABC's soap opera "One Life to Life" as the French Maid "Colette." Floanne's New York theater credits include the Public Theater, the Guggenheim Museum, and reading alongside Israel Horowitz in Richard Vetere's play. Enjoying a cocktail, or a glass of wine at the bar is the perfect opportunity to meet with the actress in person. You will be able to debate French culture, new films and television projects, as well as the French actress' upcoming projects. Floanne enjoys introducing her friends and you will be sure to meet some interesting and cultured aficionados. Live French music and Accordion are the ultimate sound track to a perfect evening at Brasserie Julien! That sound will make you travel to Paris in a second - you'll be relaxing with a glass of Chateauneuf du Pape and in no time you'll be singing along (in French) with the jazz band trio!
Authentic Cabaret Chanteuse in New York
Eventhough the French are famous for their love songs–coming from the tradition of French art songs and French chanson, driven by the melody of its poetic lyrics–the French have always had a strong appreciation for Jazz music. It is in New York that many French Jazz musicians such as Floanne come perfect their craft in the vibrant Jazz club scene. Coming from a tradition of the French chanteuse, such as Edith Piaf, Brigitte Bardot, Barbara and Françoise Hardy, Floanne is also compared to her contemporary, such as Marion Cotillard, Juliette Binoche and actress-singer Vanessa Paradis and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Eventhough she is originally a farm girl, Floanne merges her French culture and her love of Jazz music, collaborating with New York top musicians, to offer jazzy rendition of traditional French songs, but also translating the lyrics of American classics, for a culturally rich experience. The art deco by chef Philippe Ferret, the lovely waitstaff, sommelier and management, will transport you to Paris for just one evening. A memorable musical evening.
