New York Jazz Club “Brasserie Julien”:

The sound of the saxophone is close to the human voice but softer, making it the perfect choice for background music and/or acoustic concert. Brasserie Julien first had Guitar/Bass duo every weekend. Chef/Owner Philippe Ferret decided to have the saxophone as a main feature after he met French musician Sedric Choukroun in 2000. The new sax/guitar duo was a great success among regulars and Upper East Siders.
Super-saxophonists at BJ
Saxophonist-In-Residence Sedric Choukroun has been inviting some of the best Jazz horn players: BeBop Master tenor and baritone sax player Charles Davis, Jazz legend Bob Mover,
Funky alto player David-Lee Jones, French acclaimed Jazz composer and performer Jerome Sabbagh, British super-talented tenor sax man Johnny Lippiett.
Saxes, flutes and clarinets
Most saxophone players can perform on more than one sax. The saxophone family is a big family; there is more than 7 different types of saxophone, the most common being alto, tenor, soprano and baritone. Our Musical Director, Sedric Choukroun, will usually perform on both tenor and soprano sax as well as clarinet and flute. Big Band musicians use to do double and triple on different instruments. Reed players would play saxophones, flutes and clarinets - some would even play double-reed instruments such as Oboe or Bassoon.
